Nicola-Abadjiev GKA Kite-Surf World Tour
Photo: Ydwer van der Heide

Living far from the ocean in Bulgaria, Nicola Abadjiev doesn’t let that stop him. He’s been consistent on the tour in the last couple of years, placing in the top ten more than a few times and progressing steadily. Strapless freestyle is very much his specialty but he’s strong in the waves too and he’s an absolute shredder on a surfboard without a kite funnily enough. He’s still only 17 years-old and he’s got a bright future on the GKA Kite-Surf World Tour.

Favourite thing about competing on tour?:
I like the vibe! Being with the riders and the GKA crew is absolutely amazing! Good people and beautiful places!
Standout moment 2017:
Mauritius- it was my first time kitting a place like this! It’s was a whole new thing for me. The first days were definitely hard and scary, but after that I managed to relax and fully enjoy it.
Favourite competitors to ride against and watch:
I like to ride against everyone! Competitions really help me improve my riding! I always watch all of the heats when I’m outside of the water.
2018 goals:
I want to do the whole tour, improve more and more and finish the season with a good ranking!
How do you train?:
I live very far from the sea so I am currently training hard outside of the water. I do gym (functional training), swimming and mountain biking.
