STRAPLESS KITERS: TARIFA IS WAITING FOR YOU!

The city for watersports lovers is ready to host the most revolutionary strapless kitesurfing championship.

There is only one week left until the start of the Tarifa Strapless Kitesurfing PRO, the first stop in a big new tour that will continue after Tarifa with three further rounds in Sotavento (Fuerteventura), One Eye (Mauritius) and Fortaleza (Brazil).

The Tarifa Strapless Kitesurfing Pro starts on the 29th of June and runs until 3rd July, with the event welcoming riders from all over the world to take up the strapless challenge in this famous wind mecca in Spain.

“The Strapless competitors will explore the limits of surf with a kite; at the Tarifa event they will be flying and doing strapless tricks.” explained Jaime Herráiz, tour technical director.

Chiringuito Tangana on Valdevaqueros Beach will host the competition. The first day of competition, Wednesday 29th June, will see the trials session take place, and then at 7 p.m. we will have the official presentation at WET Cafè. The championships will then continue until Saturday.

The rules are very simple and easy for every one at the beach to understand. Jaime explains: “There will be a closed track in the water, marked by four buoys, where riders have to do their tricks. In each heat there will be two men face to face who will be scored by three issues: technical difficulty, general point of view and wow factor, which is their ability to impress the judges and the public!"

Riders have been practicing and developing new tricks for a whole year since the last event, so we expect to see big jumps and seemingly impossible tricks - some will even be throwing strapless handle-passes on their surfboards.

Tarifa will host riders from all over the world: from Hawaii, Australia, Cape Verde, USA, Portugal, Italy, UK and of course, Spain.

Tarifa stands out as one of the most ideal spots to practice this side of the sport thanks to its conditions, but also for its authentic kiting culture, for the hospitality of the locals, for an unbeatable gastronomy and also because this small town is an iconic home of sea and wind sports at an international level.

Apart from being able to witness the show that this competition offers, those who visit Tarifa next week will be able to experience firsthand the amazing nightlife atmosphere created throughout the competition window. Tarifa is a city that doesn’t rest, and lives the rhythm of the wind.

The tour is certified by the GKA – Global Kitesports Association Find more details for the rest of the Grand Slam Wave & Strapless Freestyle Tour here.
