GKA Kite-Surf World Tour 2017 Action Promo

As we approach the start of the new GKA Kite-Surf World Tour season that kicks off in Tarifa at the end of June, let's get a quick recap on the championship's first season in 2016.

Tools of the Trade

The evolution of strapless freestyle has emerged and the GKA Kite-Surf World Tour now mixes pure wave and strapless freestyle events in its calendar.

We're now seeing a new breed of waveboard as a result, with focus on airtime control and landings as well as pure wave performance.

We caught up with some of the GKA strapless elite at the final stop on the 2016 GKA Wave & Strapless Freestyle tour to find out what boards they’re riding and why...

Win a trip to Dakhla for the GKA Kite-Surf World Tour event in July!

From the 18th to the 23rd of July 2017, the GKA returns to Dakhla for the second time and will be hosted by the two biggest surf & kitesurf resorts respectively: Hotel Westpoint & Dakhla Attitude.

Top riders from all over the world will compete against each other in the wave and strapless freestyle categories in one of the top wave spots in Morocco, "Foum Lambouir", directly located on the recently inaugurated luxury surf resort, Hotel Westpoint.

Six days of exciting competition awaits all participants and spectators and a diversified program for all of them have been organized at this event. One of the highlights of this year´s GKA tour stop in Dakhla is that you can even win a journey to this unique event for you and your companion in July 2017!

How awesome is that?

23. MAY 2017

The GKA Kite-Surf World Tour 2017 is coming

The 2017 GKA Kite-Surf World Tour is about to begin and there are three events already locked-in for this season, with the realistic chance of one or two more to close the championships out towards the end of 2017.

27th June - 2nd July 2017

We kick things off as we did last year with a pure strapless freestyle event in one of kitesurfing's greatest meccas, Tarifa! The strapless freestyle discipline went off with a bang last year in front of thousands of sun kissed spectators. Thanks to having a World Championship tour to compete on and a full 12 months pure progression under their belts since we launched the tour last year - we can expect explosive performances!

Kitesurfers fly with birds, not against them!

Show the World the Good Environmental Intentions of Kitesurfers!

Monday 27th March, 2017

Hamburg, Germany

The Global Kitesports Association (GKA) is formed by kitesurfing’s leading brands to represent the interests of the kite-sports industry to support and promote the interests of all kite riders. You will hear a lot about the work they’ve done to smooth out the pathway for professional riders in the sport in terms unifying the world tours, but a huge part of their work is focused on the safe future pathways for the industry and sport as a whole.

A large part of that comes down to environmental education of governments and councils as to the nature of kitesurfing and its participants.

Some members of the German government are currently trying to enforce bans for kitesurfing on many of their beaches, through an incorrect understanding of the dangers that kitesurfers present to the environment, most notably – birds.
